Why Do I Care About SOPA

Last month I transcribed my conversation with Joe Pitts, our local rep, about how internet SOPA laws will affect independent artists.
I also mention how I am "someone who understands what being falsely accused of copyright infringement means today, if SOPA passes, anyone who accuses a site or person of copyright infringement and could have their sites taken down without due process or proof of the actual infringement and be liable for damages."

At the risk of sounding like a whiny baby, here is my story.
In 2008 I created the piece to the right which I call "A Very Stylish Girl". She is fashioned after a fictional character on one of my favorite movies.Guess which?

Paramount, the owner of the copyright of Breakfast at Tiffany`s has claimed copyright infringement on my above mentioned piece and removed it from Zazzle, without due process or proof. Just a claim that they are infringing. They however, have not removed it from Etsy. Why? Etsy`s copyright violation reporting system is much stern, as they would have to sign an affidavit," a statement that the notifier has a good faith belief that the material is not authorized by the intellectual property or copyright owner, its agent, or the law; and a statement made under penalty of perjury that the information provided is accurate and the notifying party is authorized to make the complaint on behalf of the intellectual property or copyright owner."

And because apparently lawyer-ing is as hard as interpreting for your benefit the law articles on wikipedia, here are my non-lawyer opinions. :)

If I am in violation, so is Harper`s Bazaar. Did anyone hear of a lawsuit?

Breakfast at Tiffany's Bridal Shower Invite -This one is using the name Tiffany, and you can`t use that name as it is trademarked. I am not claiming that any of these images are infringing, but based on why mine was removed, these would be too.

SOPA laws being reviewed this week, would actually block sites like etsy, Zazzle or any site selling these or any products big companies "deem" infringing. No judge in our legal system said it, just their over-reacting, quick to draw legal team.

As much as I like Audrey Hepburn, the artwork was not fashioned after her. She looks like me. There have been many Breakfast at Tiffany`s themed parties for little girls, are they infringing on your copyright? Zazzle has been silent and will not comment. I am, as you can image, livid. And since it is not up for discussion on Zazzle or Paramount, you can enjoy my fair use display of said alleged, "illegal" images here.

5 Business Lessons From Tabatha Coffey

She is the best in her field and she makes no qualms about telling you just that. She often comes across as a bitch and hated for her candor. She is all about achieving excellence. Tabatha Coffey is the rescuer of salons headed for ruin in her show Salon Takeover. This show appeals to me so much, that I watch her show solely for the purposes of learning techniques and ideas that I can apply to my own business.

Even thought hair studios and my design studio are certainly two different businesses, the dynamics are the same and applicable to any business model. Tabatha is called when salon owners are overwhelmed by their staff, unnecessary drama and blatant unprofessionalism. I am always taken back by the excuses we business owners come up with to cover our businesses failures and short comings.

Well, Tabatha doesn`t care. But she is there to fix it. Even in cases I thought she couldn`t possibly do it, she somehow pulls it out a hat. Here are 5 of my favorite samples!

The Summa Cum Laude Syndrome- I once heard that, to give a man a doctorate, is to do him a disservice. Apparently this is also true with master degrees. The owner of a particular salon felt the need to be condescending and disrespectful to her stylists because they didn`t have a degree. They were workers to her that were dispensable. They often quit because of how awful the owner was. She didn`t care to take in any input and her sense of entitlement was obviously tied to her degree acquired with great honors. College only takes you so far, and a bad attitude makes you a candidate to repeat the third grade.
How Low Can You Go? Dougie Dollars- Coupons, freebies and discounts are gimmicks businesses use to get new clients, but can you keep clients that way? Or better yet, can you be taken seriously as a business owner if all you have a is a gimmick? (http://www.hulu.com/watch/202603/tabathas-salon-takeover-dougie-dollars) This one owner would sent letters asking, "Don`t you want your free haircut?" to clients (http://www.bravotv.com/tabathas-salon-takeover/season-3/videos/shredding-letters) Lesson? Begging for business is sad, and giving your services away only sets you up for the poor house and opportunists who are looking for a discount. Not a long lasting business relationship. Know the minimum you are willing to be paid for your services so IF someone deserving of a discount asks for one (I.E. like a long term client), you know you will still be paid for your services.
Follow The Leader-When a ship sinking, how much fault can you place on bad sailors when the captain is not very good at giving orders? This particular salon was not only poised to receive wealthy clientele, but to be part of Boston`s Best. Yet their staff misbehaved and disrespected each other so much, their clients seldom returned. Not to mention the owner`s managerial skills lacked discipline, making him a push over. (http://www.bravotv.com/tabathas-salon-takeover/season-3/videos/getting-the-lesson-of-leadership) Lesson? You don`t have to have staff to be a push over. Under-confidence or even seeming "nice" can be perceived as a character flaw making you a target for anyone who needs to get their way. Stand by your guns, commit with confidence to your rules and stipulations so when someone steps over the line, you can take action and not let it sink your business.
Keep Your Drama To Yourself-Having a lot going on at home is one thing, but when you go to work suffering from crying spells and making rash decisions, perhaps you need a vacation? Or Tabatha. Either way, one owner cries and accuses her clientele of stealing and lying (http://www.bravotv.com/tabathas-salon-takeover/season-1/candolyns-downtown-los-angeles-ca) and another cries so much, no one pays attention to her. (http://www.bravotv.com/tabathas-salon-takeover/season-3/videos/a-star-is-born) Lesson? God knows the holidays/kids/exs/pregnancies/funerals/divorces/house cleaning/mercury retrogrades all create stress. But crying about it constantly to your staff/clients starts to becoming background noise that easily gets ignored. Take a few days off. Center. Fall in love with your business again and start to work again like Johnson`s Baby Shampoo. Tearless.
Five is Not Better Than One-Or two, or three. No matter what you to make everyone happy, there is always someone willing to create the debacle. Or still suffer from the middle child syndrome. In any case, these 5 owners bicker all the time and no one is held accountable for the business going under. (http://www.bravotv.com/tabathas-salon-takeover/season-3/vendome-houston-tx) Lesson? I seldom take commissions that involve more than one business partner, because communications can break down quickly. Delegating one partner the responsibility of relaying information is usually the road I take. However if you find yourself having a business with many owners, delegating responsibility will allow for everyone to take pride in their work. And if the business starts to fail, you will know exactly who did not do their job.

I urge you to please call your rep to deny passing of SOPA http://americancensorship.org/. I very seldom pick a side or even make mention of any political matter here. However this measure could block your ip address, like they do in China, if so much someone, without proof or due process, accuses you of infringing on their copyright. This is done, so big companies, who have lots of money to lobby in Washington and have attorneys to write measures like this, can remove their content from your site without fussing with anyone in court.

The Starbucks Show and The Great Frame Up

Finally November is upon us and my turn to be the featured artist at our local Starbucks is up!!

I felt a clueless as to what to do with my pieces so they would display properly. I felt the high school student before me did a better job at matting than I did when I showed up with my poster frames... They just didn`t look right.

I am however, always in the right place at the right time. Right next to the Starbucks is a nifty store called the Great Frame Up. I always loved how the store looked but never ventured in.

So when I really needed to re-mat and re-hook my pieces, they were not only perfect for the job, but they did it much more affordable than the big chain store I had gone before. Not to mention they did it all for me,perfectly and for less than $100 bucks. Thanks Kristie! You guys rocked!!!

A Deeper Appreciation A Little Detour

He wasn`t kidding. When the opportunity comes knocking, you should answer.

Dior called me last week to be the illustrator for their Shoe Launch Event at Bloomingdale`s this past Thursday at the Roosevelt Mall in New York and Friday at Short Hills Bloomingdale`s in New Jersey.

It was so much more than they had explained to me. It was a mini fashion show inside the store. Waiters served Champagne, macarons and madeleines. Models donned Dior`s couture shoes and clothing. "A well known illustrator" did sketches for the clients who made a Dior Couture or beauty purchases. Those were their words.

I had no idea I was well known. All I know is that I had worked really hard to push my brand and works. I am so happy and thankful I was given this opportunity. Thanks Dior and Bloomingdale`s!

A big thanks to all the lovely Dior Beauty counter managers and makeup stylist and execs at Bloomingdale`s in NJ. xoxo!!!

Thank you Elizabeth and Todd for your hospitality!!! I miss you Eli!!!!

P.S. I forgot to mention, my train was canceled when I was in NY and Elizabeth was kind enough to receive me into her home and put me up for the night. Since 2007 we have had this connection that we can`t explain. I have never met anyone I know on the internet before, and she has quickly become my best friend. Love you girl. You are sorely missed.

UPDATE: I just received an email from Christian Dior stating:

"The PR team has requested that no pictures from our Dior event are to be posted on your website or to be used for promotion. Our Paris team has strictly enforced that events partnerships of this nature- are unable to be publicized."

Out of respect for their wishes, I have since removed the images but will not remove this post. After all, I did attend the event. However, ALL the pictures I had in my possession where taken were by friends and fans who attended the event.
I love and respect Christian Dior and have every intention in following their policies. I have no control over where fans post images.

A Deeper Appreciation

August has been a rough month for me. Between Summer family activities, unplanned mishaps and even a flash from the past can derail you from whatever project you had on the burner.

But what if in the middle of feeling overwhelmed, someone made you a kind and generous offer you can`t refuse?

I have always been lucky enough to be around friends who are gifted, loyal and kind. Enter Marla Dee. She hired me to do some design work on 2006. When she showed me the logo she had created a few years prior, I told her, "This logo is very good! Why did you hire me if you are this good?"

I don`t think she expected that reaction of me. She is indeed a gifted artist and photographer. She has generously offered to photograph me. I am thrilled. She lives in Pennsylvania and will be coming to my home in about 30 days. I have decided to sew, myself, 4 outfits and create 4 fashion inspired looks and select locales appropriate for the shoot. I also would like to lose an extra 10lbs from here to October 1st. YIKES!

Above there is a Chanel like suit from the late 60`s early 70`s. This pattern is a size 10. 40 years ago women were smaller. I have no clue why. :) There first thing I did was have a consultation with a couturier. My mother.

Most skirts are made with two pieces, a front and back. Not this one. It is one piece. It is so simple, it`s complicated.

We took my body measurements and added the appropriate amount of space to fit my body. We had to retrace the pattern, and recreate it to fit me. My mother is a genius. I just don`t know how she does it. I have sewn before. With and without a pattern. It apparently, is exactly like riding a bike. You never forget.

I measured for one hour to make sure those lines would meet. Those are the touches that make a garment a piece of couture, according to mom. I started to ask myself, "what would Chanel do?" Better yet, "what would my mother do?" :)

My mother is a strict follower of the rules of high sewing. She made my clothes when I was little. How I took that for granted! Her sewing never had a fray, unmatched seams or crooked stitching. She knows all the proper finishing. She is an expert of her craft.

Weight Loss Update Before and After Pics

It`s so easy to mess up a diet. Making one bad food choice won`t do it. Making 2 bad choices, may do it. Making 3 awful food choices and you gain a deeper appreciation for your gastrointestinal track and a new obsession with your scale.

But losing weight is not about the bad choices you make. It`s about all the good choices you make and exercise versus the bad. In the end the good ones quantify your weight loss. I think I am finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

This is not about disrespecting anyone who is happy with their current weight or even vanity, but more about being ill because of your weight. At least I was. The more I let it go or put it off, the worst I got. It was a vicious circle. Even worst when you literally put your life on hold until you lose the weight. Your life passes you by and you never quite lived it.

Today I mark losing a total of 22 lbs. and love how I feel. Though the Dukan Diet started it for me, I had a hard time going grocery shopping only to see all the food I wanted to eat but couldn`t. Shakeology is a better choice for me along with regular exercise program. I loved it so much, I became a coach for BeachBody.

Wearing 13 junior`s size jeans today :D

Whatever you choose, do it. Persist. I still have 40lbs to go but if I never lose another pound, I certainly love myself like this.

Defining Yourself Beyond Your Circumstances

Sometimes we can be our worst enemies. I once heard that to accomplish a goal, you have to have more than will power. You need true grit. True grit, is the ability to tough it out when the desired outcome seems impossible. Yet, it seems that if you could just hold on a little longer, it may just happen.

I can`t begin to explain how many goals I have set for myself that just do not come to fruition, because I sabotage myself. Either by allowing the events from the past define me or even words spoken to me create who I am today. Michael Jordan`s teacher told him he was no good at sports. Madonna was told she couldn`t dance. Kids from the ghetto do not make it big. Have you ever heard of Jay-Z?

When I was 12, an English teacher in Puerto Rico had her daughter visit our class. The daughter start pointing to randoms kids and asking, "Tell me about him. Tell me about her." In English. Mind you I didn`t start speaking English until the following year, so she thought the class didn`t understand what their presumed private conversation was. I understood everything.

She points at me and asks "What about her? She looks smart." To what my teacher responded "She`s a clown. She will never amount to anything." Verbatim. I remember how my heart sank. How I could hear my heart beat in my ears and the hurt it created. I just didn`t understand why she would say that.

I could let her words define me. I do have this need to make people happy and laugh. Yet, I am not a clown. Having heard those words, made me try harder. At everything. My competitive edge is sometimes my best character flaw. Notice the oxymoron. I like it and I would not trade it for anything, though it annoys some.

You see, I could make you laugh. Although, that is not my purpose. If only my teacher had only looked beyond the girl who entertained the whole class, and disrupted hers. Nonetheless, had she not said those words, would I try any harder?? Thank you for saying that teacher. Wherever you are.

Dukan Diet Update-I Dukan No More-Before and After Pics

Elizabeth and I celebrating the comeback of my hair.

You heard me right. I Dukan no more. I tried hard and I was very good. The diet is so restrictive that took all I had in me to follow it. But when my body decided to hit a plateau and not budge, followed by my hair falling out and my nails breaking, I realized this is not the diet for me.

What Happened
I was on a roll, losing about a pound a week. I exercised daily 30 minutes and ate my oat bran as per the diet. When I got sick and cheated a bit, I recommitted myself to the diet on the following week and had no consequences from cheating.
The week after, my nails became brittle and broke. That same week, my hair started falling. That was my last straw. I can handle nails breaking, not hair falling. Taking vitamins while on this diet hurts your stomach, so that was not an option.

That was three weeks ago. I have to confess, I started to panic that the 20 lbs I had lost would come back.

What I did
I started a new exercise routine-30 Day Shred by Jillian Michaels. This routine is hard and gets progressively harder. After the diet, it seemed I gained just under 3 lbs. 3 weeks after Dukan, I am at the same point , weight wise when I stopped. I am taking vitamins and something called Shakeology. Portion control and drinking water before a meal as well as eating about every 3 hours is helping me.

I hate shakes. I like my eggs in the morning!! But I add so much fruit and yogurt to the shake, they are filling and yummy. Yet I don`t feel I need to gorge myself. They are super good! My hair is back and super thick and my nails are growing strong.

20 lbs. is not a lot when you have 40 to go, but it is a respectable start. Still, I don`t see it ....

What I learned

I really did learn a lot. I learned about food combining, cooking with low fat and baking without sugar. I also learned to satisfy my hunger with natural sweets rather than a Snickers Bar. That was hard, but doable. I also learned that the more I said, I can`t have that or I can`t eat that, the more I wanted it. Instead I say, I can have a small piece. By the time I get to have it. I no longer want it. Once something is back on the menu, it becomes invisible.

It took me since April 1st when I started exercising, May I took that picture and July the now pic. I am averaging 6lbs. off a month and I am happy. I am not starved. I have energy and my hair.:)

Vianney Creations Handmade Bride's and Bridesmaids' Clutch Purses

To give you a little intro, the owner of Vianney Creations is my lovely cousin Jovana Martinez-Almodovar. She designs and creates bridal clutch purses. Being creative in our family is certainly genetic and the entrepreneurial spirit must be closed stitched along with it. No pun intended.

Here is my interview with my lovely cousin and her creations.

1-What is your inspiration? When did you have that moment that said; "Aha! I should make purses!"
The bridal collection is versatile inspired by the desire to have a clutch not only for a wedding but a clutch that you can take with you to girls night out and to an elegant and sophisticated party. I`m inspirited by colorful tropical island that I am from(Puerto Rico), the Asian descent in my blood and my kids. It is funny how I can pair two colors by just looking at my daughters coloring book, she is only 3 years old. I started making clutch purses when my husband and I were invited to a special dinner and I wanted a unique purse that’s when I decided to make my own unique clutch line, there I said “Aha! I can make it a business.

2-How do you choose your fabrics?
Choosing the fabrics is very simple, but choosing the colors are very fun and relaxing. Since my line is Bridal Clutches I look into all bridal fabric selections. I have few online stores that I buy from that provide a quite variety of fabrics.

3-Are there any designers you admire? Why? All the well known bag designers are inspiration to me. Each of them have their unique style that make me wonder

4-How long have you been sewing for?
I officially started a year ago and when I say officially is because I have always sewn little sewing craft projects. It was a year ago when I decided to make it a business and started with making clutches.

5-Why did you choose purses?
I have a passion for small handbags because I am petite and when I look at my handbag designers I think of what would I change to make one differently.. I love to make small purses for special occasion to complete a nice outfit to go out with girlfriends, a date, to grab a coffee. I am focusing on bridal accessories because I believe a small clutch it is a chic unique gift for bridesmaids. Most of bridesmaids often spend a lot of their personal time and money making sure the wedding is exactly as the bride’s desire, why not an appreciation gift for their time and effort? It is a unique gift that they will use again and again.

Ooh La La- My article in Belle Inspiration

Been super busy! As you know, one of my side gigs is writing for magazines. This one is Belle Inspiration and it is quite my cup of tea. Mark Schwartz

Mark Schwartz began his career in New York City in the early 1980's where he was hand picked by legendary French shoe designer Roger Vivier to assist him in shoe design. Vivier was so impressed with Mark's ability to design and sketch that he called his friend Andy Warhol to visit Schwartz one day and soon Warhol took to Schwartz's whimsical approach to shoes and for the last 3 years of his life he tutored Schwartz and mentored him , both Schwartz and Warhol painted shoes on a monthly basis exchanging ideas which eventually became the style that you see today in Mark's work. After Warhol's death Schwartz went on to live and work in Paris and Milan , designing for such houses as Chanel, Lacroix, Hermes, Balenciaga, Gucci and Prada to name a few. Upon his return to New York ( 1995 ) Schwartz opened his own boutique debuting his own shoe line Mark Schwartz in the SOHO district of NYC. Schwartz then displayed the paintings he did with Warhol on the walls of his shop and found out that they soon started to sell as well if not more than his physical shoes . ( Thank you Andy! ) Schwartz has gone on to define the shoe as an art form ( High Heeled Art- Artistic Renderings of Shoes ).

I have been drawing a lot lately. Since January I have amounted an insane quantity of drawings, and I just had to do something with them.

Some of them I actually colored by hand with pencils and pastels. Others I did color digitally, but never intended for them to be released because I wanted to covet them for me. That was until yesterday. I absolutely love these.

Dukan It Out-Before and After Pics week 3

I actually cheated a bit because I was sick. I needed a bit of carbs. When I felt better, I ate better. I also I am trying Carb Intercept Phase 2 per Dr. Oz when I was bad. It helped.:D

Fashion Week Wannabe-Color Predictions and a Dukan It Out Update

I have been daydreaming in my spare time, what would I wear to fashion week NY if I were invited.. To the left is my vision. Nothing fancy yet elegant and very 70`s.

WHY???

These colors are in now, but I tell you that these schemes will be to elegance what crazy 90`s crazy color schemes will be to mainstream. Anyone with a graffiti touch to their art will be definitely in.

LORD!! Help us!!

So I know I didn`t update last week about my diet. Mostly because I am too busy hiking up my pants with a belt after losing 16lbs. total. I will be taking a picture this week. Hopefully we will all see it. :)

One thing I noticed is that is I don`t sleep or workout too much, I won`t lose weight. I have found Baskin Robbins Sugar Free Ice Cream Flavored Candy. This has been my saving grace whenever I need something naughty to eat. I also have a recipe for french dressing and Creamy Chocolate Spread.

french dressing

Ingredients

Black Pepper to taste

Dijon mustard 1 tablespoon

Ketchup (low carb) 1 teaspoon

Egg yolk1

Fat Free Plain Yogurt 3 tablespoons

Splenda 1/2 tablespoon

Onion powder to taste

Garlic powder to taste

Salt to taste

Instructions

Put the egg yolk in a mixing bowl and combine with the mustard.
Season with salt and pepper and add herbs.
Gradually mix in the yogurt, stirring continuously. Keep chilled.

Creamy Chocolate Spread

Ingredients

Fat Free Cream Cheese 1 tablespoon
Splenda 1 tablespoon
Fat Free Sugar Free Chocolate 1 tablespoon

Instructions

Keep cheese at room temperature.
Cream the cream cheese with the sugar.
Add chocolate gradually to the mix and chill
The consistency should be like that of creamy spreads. If it`s too dry, add more cream cheese.

Losing Weight The French Way Dukan Update

This is me 13 lbs lighter.

I still don`t look phat, just fat, but it`s a start. I am certainly doing things I haven`t done before. Seriously I can`t tell the difference. :D

Dukan It Out-Losing Weight The French Way

Goofing off with a friend, 5 lbs lighter :D

2011 beckons change. I think it`s time for me to face the demons of sitting down for a living.

Exercising has always been a priority for me. But even if you sit down for 8 hours a day, the time at the treadmill becomes invisible time. You might as well not have done a thing.

But when the pounds seem to like you as much as you like chocolate, it`s time for a change. Sooo I started the Dukan Diet.

Like I said before, exercising is not the issue. I do zumba for one hour each day and my body responded by losing 5 lbs. I was ecstatic! Finally something that worked. But not fast enough for me. Lucky for me, I only have to lose 51 lbs. Yay me... *celebrates sarcastically*

The Dukan diet seems to be the thing helping me most. It`s isn`t a fad diet, but a way of re-educating yourself to eat healthy. The diet has 4 phases and thought I am certain this diet is not for everyone, but it was certainly worth the try.

Fatter than usual during a YouTube video. :(

I am on the first phase, the attack phase. I have to warn you if you plan to do this diet, have a few "practice" days. The first few days are torture and I don`t think I would have manage the diet days itself without a little help from Mr. Cake during the practice days. Though I only had two practice days, but by the third day, craving carbs was not an issue. So far I have lost a total of 7 lbs and I am happy!

It`s FITNYC Baby!

UPDATE: Due to some unfortunate family events, I have dropped out, not having even started the program. I am super sad. Family comes first and at least I am there to help.

I don`t even know how to begin to explain this. I have wanted to attend FIT for 3 years now. But for some reason, it just wasn`t happening.

I always known drawing is for me. I love it. I live it. I never really embraced sewing. I have known how to do it since I was very young thanks to my mother. So when a chance came to take sewing in school, I refused to use a pattern because it felt like I was "cheating". It wasn`t my design. It just didn`t make sense so use it. I quickly changed my mind and combined two patterns to create one unique one.

I know the desire is still not in me to sew. But there is a Je ne sais quoi about fashion that I can`t resist. Not all fashion though. The drawings. The art. The history. My particular obsession lies in accessories. So what does this have to do with FIT? Absolutely nothing. I am attending this summer and I am sharing my excitement with you.

I still don`t know what I will finally choose to study. I am just taking a bunch of random art classes and having fun with it. I believe reinventing yourself is the key to happiness ( and the joyous ending to what was a dead end rut career.) :)

A Taste of Summer- Marker and Charcoal Sketches

So for those clever enough to figure out there is a huge gap between posts, there is a reason. A good one I might add. After spending 5 years as a hermit crab in from of my computer, I have been living life outside. I have been doing a lot more without my pc. That including art.

You see, it occurred to me that I have been relying heavily on how Illustrator auto corrects my lines and Painter undoes by boo boos in a click. I felt lazy. So I went out on a quest to prove to no one else but me that, well, I still got it. Luckily for me, I do. :)

This week I will unveil my new line of hand drawn (in paper) croquis.

As I paged through the couture pictures of Vouge, I couldn`t help but feel the need to sketch them. Specially the photo essay photographed by Arthur Elgort. It was so intensely retro chic and yet delicately neo-modern.

Though all I really wanted was to sketch the pretty girls on the big poofy hats, no matter what I did, they looked retro. The kind of retro you see in old french magazines. They are sweet, quick croquis that I just love.

Let`s just say, I failed and Lauren taught me how to be better. She is indeed one of the sweetest, kindest souls I have met on the web and she deserves more than this award. She is a one of a kind designer. Creative, inventive and her work is superb. If I had to pick one person I could be like, Lauren you are it. Thanks girlfriend!

I will be honest, sharing is hard for me. but I`ll give it a go.:)

I am addicted to Just Dance 2. My favorite songs are Football Crazy, Jump in the Line and Dagomba. I do it every day and I love it. I have the injuries to prove it.
I listen to French radio stations. When I was 12 and perfecting my English, I was told to watch tv and listen to the radio and you`ll pick up the language quicker. Let`s just say, it`s true and it works!
I recently decided I have no favorite color. But guess which one I would choose!!! Look around and take a wild one! :)
I talk. All day. On the phone. And on Skype. And IM. I am busy. Always. 24 hours a day. 7 days a week. 365 days a year.
I believe that If you receive something good, it`s because you deserve it and have worked for it. It wasn`t taken away from someone who wanted it too and no one went without because you have it. There is a lot of wealth in the world and your stash is waiting for you to claim it.
I believe that liars are the only ones who believe the saying "there are two sides to every story". Of course there are two sides. One is a lie, the other one is the truth. To me, the truth is the only side, but only your choice on the side you take. I also believe back stabbers are the only ones who believe they should "keep their enemies closer".
I still write on paper. There is a magic I cannot explain and outpouring of my soul to it. I even use dip pens just to feel that connection to the words written.

3. Pay it forward to 15 recently discovered great Bloggers

This is even tougher because I know a lot of good artists. They are all good! Oddly enough, Lauren I would have given you and so would StarSunflower Studio and Lori Malibu Italian(honorable mention). In no particular order :)

In 2008 I was approached by a rep of New York and Company. They saw my poodle and loved it so much, that the offer to buy it on the spot.

I obliged. Subsequently, more artwork was purchased. Fast forward to 2010. I have heard the store is doing great but have never seen the goods created with the artwork I made. Until now.

Thank you missjuicysista, a fashion video blogger on YouTube was gracious enough to video her trip to her favorite store. This just made my year :)

How to Apply Wrap Around Labels from Zazzle

I love labels!! But wrap around labels are extra special. They give you the chance to be able to write people`s names and add your address with an elegant graphic, with your address on the opposite side.

But I have seen a couple versions of this, one that wraps on the left and another one to the right. So I wanted to show how to apply them! This options gives you the address on the right.

1- Peel your label

2-Apply on the envelope with the side you write on the front of the envelope

3-Wrap the rest of the label around the envelope, placing the part of the label with your address on it on the back.

This is how it should look. Now for your address on the left.

I love doing this, mostly because I like finding out whether I am right on the flip side. The times I have tried doing so, I have been mostly right. Let`s see how well I do!

Victor Taba is a nice shade of Tan

Tan is in-To those of you who can`t see this lovely color, calibrate your darn monitors! (Sorry for the "darn" but this is a pet peeve of mine. If you cannot see it, it is your monitor`s fault.) For those of you who can feast your eyes on a color I feel is going to breakthrough web design and stationery. Though many people do not like this color (actually I only know one person) I like tan. Tans are really warm grays and they resemble natural textures which leads me to the next trend.
No color, but texture-Between Kraft paper to lace, I would say this trend is singlehandedly the work of the scrappers (scrapbookers to you who may not know). Personally, Lace is not my cup of tea. But Kraft paper or any paper texture will do just fine. I have even seen sites that replicate the look of moleskine, a look I have a soft spot for. Here is an idea of what it looks like. Below is a sample of cork skin, another fun material

Retro color is in-I don`t mean 70`s color palettes, I mean 50s-60s toy color palettes. To be fair this one has been in for a while. I believe this to be a direct trend set by the Toy Story Movies and the release of its latest installment. The combination that seems to making its way to commercials and packaging is this red and blue combo. Thought I have seen blue and hot pink and blue and chocolate, I would say this trend is here to stay well in to 2011. It`s very springy.

Gold and Red-Though most people think of this colors as holiday colors, Red and gold or red and orangey-yellow is a great preppy color combo. Though both of these colors are very bright and high energy colors, I feel it`s important to say, these colors are the culinary equivalent of salt. Too much and you ruin your palette.
