Cake Master Recipe-Free Download

I love to cook. With 5 kids, I have to cook like I am feeding a small battalion. A few months ago, it occurred to me it would be a good idea to learn how to make a cake from scratch. I have a pretty large collection of old magazines and I was sure I had a recipe there for cake.
Master Cake Chart

I was right. Not only did I find a master booklet on how to make cake, but I found a master recipe for biscuits and a master muffin chart. I also found a cake recipe from the second World War in which, apparently due to rationing, less sugar was needed but it was "still sweet". That may be a low carb recipe!

Well, I thought I`d share with you the cake master recipe. It even has a 7 minute frosting recipe and variations on flavor! Click on the little image and print. I`m off to bake!

Enjoy!!

She`s Got Legs-Pinup girl

I confess, I love legs. I love pin ups. Yes, I know they were the "dirty" artwork of back in the day. However if you compare that with what is "dirty" today, pin ups are bubble gum candy in comparison. They are from a simpler time, not to mention they were all made by hand.

I have no desire to break out the Russian watercolors and French watercolor paper, when they are softwares out there that mimic the look without the mess. Not to mention my printer is amazing and prints like I painted it!

So here is my newest girl Girl`s Got Legs. Inspired by the classics!

A Moment in Time

I buy a lot of ephemera, specially old pictures. My hobby, at one point was a 300 dollar a week expenditure so I have amounted quite a collection. Mostly my pictures are from the 20`s to the 50`s Europe. I even have a pictures of the aftermath of World War 2, of what looks to me as a divisor wall in Germany, a damaged church and a line of people waiting to get food.

These are all moments in time. Someone was impressed enough, loved enough, was sadden enough, to burn the image in front of his or her eyes into celluloid. It`s a memory of a moment that passed by too quickly. It would be otherwise be saved in their minds and hearts.

What you have done and where you have been, changes you. What you have seen and experienced, moves you. Your epic view of the world that could change in a second. In many ways photos help us recall and freshen the memory so it doesn`t fade. These are only black and white, but still carry on with power.

I never knew him. I never met him. All I know, is that he was a young man when visited the Alps in Europe sometime in the 30`s. I was lucky enough to buy the pictures from his estate when he passed sometime in before 2005. That year, I collected more printed pictures from strangers than what I have of my own family. (Suffices to say, I have digital pics of my family.) The thought that no one was mentioned to claim them in a will saddens me.

It`s Genetic

When I was 3 years old, my mother taught me who to read in Spanish, colors and numbers in English and Spanish, crochet and sew. When it was time for me to go to K-4, they bumped me to K-5. I don`t have to tell you how proud my mom was that all the time and effort she spent on me paid off.

Now that I am home schooling my kids, I get to teach them the little extras that my mother taught me. My daughter is 6 now, teaching her two languages at the same time is super hard, but she is so bright! Here is a little video of her crocheting and saying what the name of the stitch she is doing in Spanish. We are trying to make a bufanda (a scarf).

The art gene must be genetic.

Something to make you smile

Finally, I have a blog. I missed drawing so much that I actually bought pencils and notebooks because I felt I couldn`t replicate the natural textures with my software.

Turns out I could, I just needed to upgrade my software. Don`t you just love that sweet little bird? It made me smile to draw it. I really will try my best to blog as much as I can.

Enjoy!
